From the Black Death to the Renaissance

To help guide you in studying for this unit, here are a few key questions and concepts you should become familiar with:

  • Where and what is Europe? Political, cultural, physical, historical and mythological geographies.  The myth of Europa as a metaphor for the Renaissance.
  • The Black Death and the roots of the Renaissance.

  • What was the feudal system? How did it work? How did new developments during the Renaissance challenge the Feudal system?

Continue your research on your Renaissance person -- This time, use one of the resources available through the SFCC library (link). Cite your source in MLA format (see link on the left, or use the library's guide to citations).
As you read, try to answer the following questions:
--How does the person you chose fit into the context of the Renaissance?
  (What was going on at the time in art, science, politics, religion, etc. that may have influenced the life and work of the person you are studying?).
--In what ways was the person you chose a "Renaissance man?"
