Service Opportunities:

The Center for International Relations is organizing a Cold War summit on October 16th for Santa Fe high schools. Our topic at the conference will be Castro and the Missile Crisis, and we will be preparing a content briefing to present at the event. We may also volunteer to help organize the conference.

A culminating project for this could be visiting elementary schools and teaching about our sister cities, showing our materials and sharing our materials both with schools and with the mayor's office and city council.

Sister Cities also wants to establish a poster exchange. We could get involved designing and proposing some artistic, aesthetically pleasing posters that feature some of our well-known events, such as the International Folk Art Market, Spanish Market or Indian Market.

Skype Conversations: Another proposal is to establish Skype conversations between members of our community and community members in these cities as a cultural, political, interpersonal exchange.

Santa Fe Sister Cities Program

Started during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the mission of the Sister Cities program is to “promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation — one individual, one community at a time”.

The Santa Fe Sister Cities Program consists of a Mayor-appointed and City Council-approved Sister Cities Advisory Committee and seven Sister City relationships. Santa Fe is a member of Sister Cities International and has existing Sister City relationships with:

  • Bukhara, Uzbekistan

  • Parral, Mexico

  • Santa Fe de la Vega, Granada, Spain

  • Sorrento, Italy

  • Tsuyama, Japan

  • Holguin, Cuba

  • Zhang Jia Jie, Hunan Province, The People’s Republic of China

  • Icheon, South Korea

  • San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

  • Livingstone, Zambia
